MEMBERS

The Group arranges a number of events throughout the year. These include visits to notable sites and social occasions. Members are always welcome at these events and those wishing to attend any of those planned should contact the Secretary. Visits to towns and to individual buildings of interest are organised regularly for the benefit of members. The annual programme includes guided visits to little known historic buildings, or areas. There are some half dozen well attended events a year.

MEMBERS SOCIAL EVENTS

Such events may include lecture or dinner evenings, events organised at the houses of members, a dinner each November and an annual meeting each Spring.Members may be asked for a contribution towards the direct cost of outings or events, which, unless they include a meal or travel, may vary from £1.00 to £5.00.

Mount Edgcumbe

Tours 11.00AM tour of buildings with Eric Berry including the English and French garden houses (part of research project with University of Pennsylvania) and recently restored service buildings.

Cost £5.00 not including lunch, facilities are available at Mount Edgcumbe or bring a picnic lunch.

Bus   Getting there - From Torpoint road A374 at Treulefoot roundabout (A38 Liskeard to Saltash road) follow brown signs to Mount Edgcumbe. Turn right into country park and park at the plants sales car park which is 25 yards from the stables restaurant and shop. Disabled car parking is below the plant sales or beside the house. Members can be driven to the garden houses but prior notice would be appreciated.

Kelly house

Tours  Meet in the stable yard for introductory talk by Stephen Tyrrell. This property may well boast the longest single occupancy of any house in Britain. It is noted for its 15th century roof timbers, Great Kitchen dated 1600 on frieze, 17th century extensions, later Palladian style block dated 1742 and Victorian wing.

Following on Mr Kelly with open the church. This church was noted by Bishop Bronscombe in 1259.

Refreshments Cost £10.00 to include tea in the Great Kitchen. A collection will be held in the church to support its maintenance.

Kind Edward mine, Troon and the Great Flat Lode

 Tours11.00AM tour of mine with expert Tony Brooks and volunteers. Some walking required. The mine is suitable for wheelchair users. Coffee is available on arrival.

Refreshments Cost £5.00 includes coffee. Picnic lunches can be eaten on site or under cover. The nearest pub is the Countryman at Piece approximately 2 miles.

Leave King Edward mine for a tour of the Great Flat Lode led by Ainsley Cocks (world heritage site research officer).

Bus   Getting there - Follow brown signs from A30 at Pool. At Cambourne take road to Beacon and Troon over railway line for about 1.5 miles - brown sign for King Edward mine just before Troon.

Penzance Town Heritage Initiative

Tours  11.00AM meet at Abbey Warehouse, Penzance, (adjoins inner harbour) for walk around Penzance to look at properties renovated by the Town Heritage Initiative.  Walk led by Nick Cahill, CBG Chairman

Refreshments  Bring a picnic or use the town's restaurants or pubs.

Visit to local house of interest in the afternoon  TBC.
